How To Show Value With A Personal Note

There is no denying that we live in a tech-obsessed society. Walk down the street and you’ll see the majority of people with their heads slumped downward looking at their phones instead of looking at the world around them. While technology is awesome, we’ve lost the personal touches used to be commonplace.

For many of us, we probably don’t remember the last time that we received a handwritten note from someone. Perhaps it was a birthday card from a relative, or a cute note from a significant other. Regardless, nobody writes notes to each other like they used to. But in the world of real estate, the simple concept of a personal, handwritten note can have huge ramifications.

When I was an agent, I had a real estate coach, Brian Buffini, who sent me 50 blank cards each month. He insisted I send written notes to clients and whomever else in my network. And because I like to take things a step further, I doubled the 50 cards and sent 100 notes out each month. I was the Note King (and should have been crowned for my efforts)! I would send notes to my vendors, lenders, other agents, clients, and basically anybody I could think of that could assist me in building my brand.

Most of you are probably thinking “I don’t have time to write personal notes each day.” Not true. Writing notes isn’t some labor-intensive task that eats hours upon hours of your time. Your recipient will get a warm and fuzzy feeling from a handwritten note. And honestly, it doesn’t take a bunch of thought-provoking content to write a personal note. Whatever you write inside could be as simple as:

Dear Client,

It was wonderful to meet with you the other day. I think you’re great and I look forward to working with you down the road.

Sincerely,

Tyler, your awesome, helpful, talented, all-around superstar real estate agent

Obviously this is not something you would write word-for-word, but you get the idea. If you don’t think you can crank out 100 notes a month, start with one per day. Once you get into a routine, there is no reason why you won’t be able to easily write 100.

Of all the things I talk about to help build your real estate business, nothing is more simple than a handwritten note. There’s also no need to “put this concept on steroids” because it’s already awesome. It’s old-school and people appreciate it on its own. If you aren’t writing personal notes to  people in your sphere, you aren’t showing that you care. A handwritten note will accomplish so much more than any text, email, or social media post you will ever make…so get writing!

I grew my business strictly by referrals. I had a system in place called Ty’s 35, designed to wow every single client I had. I’m going to share my system with you, week by week, so you too can start working by referral. No more door knocking, no more cold calling, no billboards, and no advertising.
